Overview
Welcome to the Finance Module documentation suite. This index serves as the master architectural roadmap for the entire Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial system.
Due to the complex, interrelated nature of financial accounting, the system must be configured in a rigorous, sequential hierarchy. Failure to adhere to this chronological path will result in missing dependencies and systemic validation errors.
This index outlines the 5-phase configuration and operational journey, directing you to the specific user guides necessary for each step.
Phase 1: The Accounting Foundation (General Ledger)
This foundational phase is absolute. It establishes the legal entity's core accounting parameters, physical ledgers, and structural taxonomies. You must complete this phase entirely before attempting to configure any subsequent subledger or tax module.
- Ledger setup: Establishes the core ledger, including currency bindings and fiscal calendar assignments.
- Currencies: Defining tradable currencies.
- Exchange rate types: Managing diverse currency conversion rates.
- Fiscal calendars: Structuring the financial year into discrete, controllable periods.
- Main accounts: Constructing the raw chart of accounts (the fundamental nodes of accounting).
- Financial dimensions: Defining the analytical tags (e.g., Cost Center, Department) used for granular reporting.
- Financial dimension sets: Grouping dimensions into hierarchical structures for reporting inquiries.
- Account structures: The critical engine that binds Main Accounts to Financial Dimensions, enforcing strict validation rules during data entry.
- Journal names: Configuring the templates and voucher generation rules for processing entries.
- General ledger parameters: Establishing global behaviours, number sequences, and cash flow mappings.
Phase 2: Global Taxation
With the GL established, the tax framework must be configured next. Tax heavily dictates the posting logic within the operational subledgers (AP/AR).
Tax Infrastructure & Concepts
- Understanding the tax engine: An architectural overview explaining how tax groups intersect.
- Ledger posting groups: Binding taxes to GL accounts.
- Sales tax authorities: Defining the collecting entities.
- Sales tax settlement periods: Establishing reporting frequencies.
Tax Rates & Vectors
- Sales tax codes: Defining the specific mathematical percentages.
- Sales tax groups & Item sales tax groups: Establishing the intersection logic for automated calculation.
Declarations & Operations
- Sales tax reporting codes: Mapping for jurisdictional declarations.
- Settle and post sales tax: The period-end settlement procedure.
- Tax inquiries: Processing Tax transactions and Sales tax payments reports.
Phase 3: Operational Subledgers (Planned)
These modules represent the daily operational front-lines of the business. They sit atop the GL and Tax frameworks, inheriting their rules.
Cash & Bank Management
- Bank accounts, routing numbers, and payment formats.
Accounts Payable (Procurement to Pay)
- Vendor groups and individual Vendor master data.
- Terms of payment and Cash discount schedules.
- Procurement categories.
Accounts Receivable (Order to Cash)
- Customer groups and individual Customer master data.
- Credit limit frameworks and collection profiles.
Phase 4: Advanced Costing & Operations (Planned)
This phase governs the complex valuation of inventory and production.
- Costing versions and Standard Costing paradigms.
- BOM (Bill of Materials) calculations.
- Cost sheets and overhead absorption rules.
Phase 5: Financial Intelligence & Inquiries
This phase aggregates the transactional data from all preceding phases, providing the ultimate analytical outputs.
Transactional Inquiries
- General journals: The primary interface for manual ledger adjustments and corrections.
- Voucher transactions: The immutable, multi-currency audit trail for all posted financial activity across the entire ERP.
- Ledger transaction list: A structured, grouped report of ledger impacts optimised for reconciliation.
Analytical Reporting
- Trial balance: The fundamental financial inquiry for verifying period balances and calculating net movement.
- Financial reports: The interface for generating, previewing, and exporting formal Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow statements.
