General ledger parameters

The General ledger parameters page acts as the foundational configuration hub for the entire General Ledger module. It dictates global behaviours, default systemic rules, and essential infrastructural mappings that apply comprehensively across all ledger activities.

Prerequisites

  • Number sequences: You must pre-configure the fundamental number sequences in Organisation administration > Number sequences before they can be mapped here.
  • Main accounts: Required prior to configuring specific ledger parameter groupings, such as Cash Flow & Liquidity.

Number sequences

The Number sequences tab is critical for maintaining an unbroken, sequential audit trail across all ledger documents and vouchers. Here, you strictly map the logical document references required by the General Ledger to the actual, physical number sequences generated by the organisation administration module.

  1. Navigate to General ledger > Ledger setup > General ledger parameters.
  2. Select the Number sequences tab on the left navigation pane.
  3. The grid displays a comprehensive list of all systemic document references requiring sequential numbering within the module:
    • General journal: The primary voucher sequence utilised for standard journal entries.
    • Trace number: A unique sequence often employed for internal transactional tracking or external integration tracing.
    • General journal reversal voucher: A dedicated sequence specifically for posted reversals, ensuring clean audit separation from standard forward-entries.
    • Sales tax payment voucher: The sequence utilised when executing periodic tax settlements and generating payment liabilities.
    • Exchange adjustment voucher: The sequence applied when executing foreign currency revaluations and generating unrealised/realised adjustment postings.
  4. For each reference, select the appropriate Number sequence code. The description will populate automatically to confirm your selection.

Cash Flow & Liquidity

The Cash Flow & Liquidity tab permits you to explicitly designate which specific main accounts represent the organisation's highly liquid assets (cash and cash equivalents).

  1. Select the Cash Flow & Liquidity tab on the left navigation pane.
  2. The grid displays the designated Cash Flow & Liquidity Accounts.
  3. You must meticulously add the specific main accounts (e.g., 1010 - Bank Account - Main, 1000 - Cash) that constitute your liquid reserves.
  4. Critical Impact: The accounts designated within this grid are directly queried and utilised by the system's advanced cash flow analysis reports and liquidity forecasting engines to calculate the organisation's real-time cash position. Failure to map these accounts accurately will fundamentally compromise the integrity of all cash flow reporting.
