Sample Data
To try the module without typing a lot of setup first, the application installs sample data for a repair shop that services battery chargers, inverters, solar inverters and home appliances. It is installed when the application starts in a development or test environment, and never in production: a production installation sets up its own service stages, tasks and devices.
Nothing is installed twice. When the application starts again, an entry that is already there is left alone and an entry that is missing is added back. The workflow is the exception: it is installed only when no service stage exists yet, so a workflow you built yourself is never mixed with the sample one.
Sample data in Arabic
The same sample data is also available in formal Arabic, in the folder Setup/ServiceManagement/ar of the application. The codes are the same as in the English files (RECEIVED, CHG-005-0001 and so on); only the descriptions are translated.
To install the Arabic version, set the environment variable SERVICE_MANAGEMENT_SEED_LANGUAGE to ar before the application starts. Without it, the English version is installed. Only one language is installed into a database: because an entry whose code already exists is left alone, starting again in another language does not translate what is already there. To switch language, start from a database that has no service management setup yet.
The workflow
The sample workflow follows the steps of the shop: receive, inspect, repair, or cancel when the parts are not available or the cost is too high for the customer.
RECEIVED
└─ INSPECTION
├─ REPAIR
│ ├─ COMPLETED
│ └─ CANCELED_REPAIR (needs a reason)
└─ CANCELED_INSPECTION (needs a reason)
| Stage | Meaning | What it forbids |
|---|---|---|
| RECEIVED | The device is in the shop and has not been inspected. Every order starts here. | Invoicing. |
| INSPECTION | The fault is diagnosed and the customer is given the price. | Invoicing. |
| REPAIR | The customer accepted the price and the work is in progress. | Deleting, invoicing. |
| COMPLETED | Repaired, tested and ready to collect. | Changing, canceling lines, deleting. |
| CANCELED_INSPECTION | Canceled after inspection. | Changing, canceling lines, deleting. |
| CANCELED_REPAIR | Canceled during repair. | Changing, canceling lines, deleting. |
Moving to a canceled stage needs a reason. The sample reason codes are:
| Reason code | Meaning |
|---|---|
PARTS_UNAVAILABLE | Required parts are not available. |
COST_TOO_HIGH | The repair cost is too high for the customer. |
BEYOND_REPAIR | The device cannot be repaired. |
CUSTOMER_WITHDREW | The customer withdrew the order. |
An order can also be moved back (for example from COMPLETED to REPAIR when the customer returns with the same fault), because every stage allows transfers.
Devices
The devices are examples to take in on an order. They are in five groups:
| Group | Examples |
|---|---|
BATTERY_CHARGERS | 5 A, 10 A and 30 A chargers (CHG-005-0001, CHG-010-0001, CHG-030-0001, ...). |
HEAVY_CHARGERS | 200 A chargers for large battery banks (CHG-200-0001, CHG-200-0002). |
INVERTERS | 1 kW, 3 kVA and 5 kVA inverters (INV-1000-0001, ...). |
SOLAR_INVERTERS | Hybrid solar inverters and an MPPT charge controller (SOL-3000-0001, ...). |
HOME_APPLIANCES | A washing machine, a refrigerator, a microwave oven and a fan (APP-WASH-0001, ...). |
The amperage or power is part of the device code and description, so a charger is found by what it is. No device is linked to an inventory item.
The repair vocabulary
| List | What is installed |
|---|---|
| Service tasks | Diagnose, clean and service, replace a component, repair the board, replace a fuse or the fan, rewire, rewind a transformer, reconfigure, load test. |
| Repair conditions | Good, worn, cracked case, water damage, burnt, opened by someone else. |
| Repair resolutions | Repaired, part replaced, adjusted, no fault found, beyond repair, canceled by the customer. |
| Repair stages | Received, diagnosing, waiting for parts, in repair, testing, finished, unrepairable. |
| Symptom areas | Power, charging, output, display and controls, solar, cooling and noise, home appliance, each with its codes (for example Does not charge the battery). |
| Diagnosis areas | Power stage, capacitors, control board, wiring and connections, cooling, protection, battery, appliance parts, each with its codes (for example Blown MOSFETs or transistors). |
What the sample data does not include
- Customers and items. Take customers from Accounts receivable and items from Inventory. For walk-in customers use one customer account.
- The order number sequence. Set it under Service management > Setup > Parameters (Service orders).
- Orders. Create them yourself on the Service orders page; the data above is what you choose from.
Where the data comes from
The data is in the files under src/Host/Setup/ServiceManagement/ (one file per list). Change a file to change what a new development database gets; the existing rows are not changed.
