Financial dimensions

The Financial dimensions page allows you to create and manage the analytical segments (tags) used to categorise financial transactions. By tagging transactions with dimensions such as Cost Center, Department, or Region, you enable highly granular financial reporting and analysis without unnecessarily complicating your chart of accounts.

Prerequisites

  • Main accounts (As dimensions will ultimately be paired with main accounts via Account Structures).

Creating a financial dimension

  1. Navigate to General ledger > Dimensions > Financial dimensions.
  2. Select New from the Action Pane.
  3. In the Use values from dropdown, select the source of the dimension values. This is the most critical configuration step:
    • Custom dimension: Select this if you need to manually define and maintain a unique list of values specifically for this dimension (e.g., "Region").
    • System-backed dimensions (e.g., Customer, Vendor, Employee, Department): Select one of these entities to automatically bind the dimension to existing master data within the ERP.
  4. Enter a Name (the internal system identifier, which cannot contain spaces).
  5. Enter a Report name (the human-readable label that will appear on financial statements and UI columns).
  6. Click Save to initialise the dimension.

Managing custom dimension values

If you configured the dimension to use values from a Custom dimension, you must manually define the allowed values.

  1. Select the custom dimension from the list view.
  2. In the values grid at the bottom of the page, click Add value.
  3. Enter a unique Value identifier (e.g., UAE_DXB).
  4. Enter a descriptive Name (e.g., Dubai, UAE).
  5. To remove obsolete values, select the corresponding row and click Delete selected.

System-backed dimensions

When a system-backed entity (such as Employee or Customer) is selected in the Use values from field, the system delegates the management of those values to their respective modules.

  • The values grid will automatically populate with the active records from that module (e.g., loading all active employees).
  • The Add value and Delete selected buttons are intentionally disabled for system-backed dimensions. To add a new Employee dimension value, you must hire/create a new employee in the Human Resources module; the dimension will synchronise automatically.
