Ledger Configuration

Navigation Path: General Ledger module > Ledger setup > Ledger

Overview

The Ledger page is the primary configuration hub for defining the foundational financial parameters of a legal entity. It dictates how financial transactions are recorded, classified, and reported. This configuration binds together the chart of accounts, fiscal calendar, and currencies to establish a unified accounting framework.

General Information

This section establishes the core identity and temporal boundaries of the ledger.

  • Ledger Name: A distinct, alphanumeric identifier for the ledger (e.g., "Main"). This name is consistently utilised across the system to identify the legal entity's primary accounting book.
  • Fiscal Calendar: Determines the financial periods and years for the ledger. All posted transactions will be strictly validated against the active periods defined within this selected calendar.

Account Structures

Account structures enforce the rules regarding which financial dimensions are required or permitted when posting to specific main accounts.

You must associate at least one account structure with the ledger to enable transaction processing. The system evaluates the assigned account structures sequentially to determine valid account and dimension combinations.

To Append an Account Structure:

  1. Navigate to the Account structures section.
  2. Select Add.
  3. Choose the appropriate account structure from the available drop-down list.
  4. Select Save in the primary action pane to persist the changes.

Currency Management

This section dictates the core currencies utilised for recording and reporting financial data.

  • Accounting Currency: The primary base currency in which all general ledger balances and transactions are natively recorded (e.g., SYP - Syrian Pound).
  • Exchange Rate Type (Accounting): Determines the default exchange rate matrix employed when translating foreign currency transactions into the accounting currency.
  • Reporting Currency: A secondary currency utilised for consolidating or reporting financial results in a currency other than the accounting currency (e.g., USD - US Dollar).
  • Exchange Rate Type (Reporting): Determines the exchange rate matrix employed when translating transaction amounts into the reporting currency.

Prerequisite Configurations

Prior to configuring the Ledger, ensure the following foundational elements are fully established within the system:

Note: Modification of the accounting or reporting currency after transactions have been posted is strictly prohibited by the system architecture to ensure uncompromising data integrity.
