Location Properties

Overview

Location Purpose and Location Type are two short reference lists that you configure once and then assign to locations when building your warehouse structure. They serve as classification labels that let you filter and group locations throughout the system.

ملاحظة

These properties are currently used for filtering and classification only. They do not affect inventory posting, transaction routing, or any automated system behaviour at this time.

Both pages follow the same pattern: a searchable list on the left and a simple detail form on the right. They are found under Location Management in the current navigation and will be moved to Setup in a future release.

Location Purpose

A Location Purpose describes the intended role of a location — what kind of activity takes place there. This lets you quickly filter locations by their function (for example, "show me all receiving locations").

Default purposes

The system ships with five standard purposes:

CodeNameDescription
ADMINISTRATIVEAdministrativeAdministrative or organisational location without physical inventory
SALESSalesLocation used for sales-side operations
SHIPPINGShippingLocation from which goods are dispatched to customers
RECEIVINGReceivingLocation where incoming stock is first accepted
STORAGEGeneral StorageStandard storage location for holding inventory

Fields

FieldDescription
CodeA short unique identifier for this purpose (e.g. RECEIVING). Set at creation.
Location purpose nameThe display name shown throughout the system.
DescriptionOptional free-text explanation of what this purpose represents.

Managing location purposes

To create a new purpose:

  1. Select + New in the toolbar.
  2. Enter the Code, Location purpose name, and optionally a Description.
  3. Select Save.

To edit: Select a purpose from the list, then select Edit in the toolbar. You can update the name and description. The code cannot be changed after saving.

To archive: Select the purpose, then select Archive. Archived purposes are removed from dropdowns but preserved in the database. Select Archived items to view or restore them.

Location Type

A Location Type describes the physical or organisational nature of a location — what kind of place it is in the real world or in the warehouse hierarchy.

Default types

The system ships with seven standard types representing the typical levels of a warehouse and logistics hierarchy:

WAREHOUSEWarehouseA physical warehouse building or facility
ZONEZoneA named area or zone within a warehouse

Managing location types

To create a new type:

  1. Select + New in the toolbar.
  2. Enter the Code, Location type name, and optionally a Description.
  3. Select Save.

To edit: Select a type from the list, then select Edit in the toolbar. You can update the name and description. The code cannot be changed after saving.

To archive: Select the type, then select Archive. Archived types are removed from dropdowns but preserved in the database. Select Archived items to view or restore them.

تلميح

The seven default types cover most warehouse and logistics setups. Only create new types if your physical structure genuinely introduces a category that none of the defaults describe.
